Welcome to Hippie Fest ✌︎︎

The literal vibe of the day: ☮︎⋆˙❀⟡☾𓋼𖤓⟡𑁍˙⋆𖦹

Every once in a while I am rewarded from mindlessly scrolling on social media; Facebook being one of them. I found this gem a few months ago and immediately knew this was an event for me. Even though I had no one to go with (that’s become a norm in my life at this point), this seemed to scream my name.

Just imagine: a 2-day festival filled with groovy live music, a vintage car show— showcasing classic beetles & buses, DIY tie dye stations, dancing & hula hooping, bubble gardens, drum circles… have I intrigued you enough? I was in awe walking into the festival, there was so much going on!

Nearing the front, the faintest of music could be heard drifting through the air as colorful bubbles floated slowly past. I couldn’t get past how warm everyone was! Greeting you as you entered this enchanting fantasy land.

I can never resist a vintage car!

Insanely talented artisan vendors from all over North Carolina made an appearance, selling handmade crochet, woodwork, scarves, jewelry, clothes, you name it. I must’ve circled through all of the vendors 3 or 4 times, admiring their handy work and exchanging loving and encouraging words and hugs.

Everyone was so carefree, dancing with hula hoops and floating through the wind. Such a refreshing sight to see people organically being themselves.

Just when I thought I had seen everything, I came across a drum circle! They provided various hand drums, tambourines, and shakers. Ever since seeing Heartless Bastards in concert a few weeks ago (highly recommend checking them out by the way), and seeing the tambourine player with a silver & black moon shaped tambourine, I’ve been captivated by the instrument. Being able to play one and feel the vibrational sound coming from my own hands was energizing.

Led by T Natty (a Jamaican reggae artist who I later found out would be performing at the end of day), he had the most electrifying and contagious energy. We played different beats and rhythms, just having fun with improvisation and our creativity.

There was one main stage, with bands playing a set every 2 hours or so and then this side stage. I really enjoyed listening to Noah Back. He had a raspy, edgier sound and the covers he played, one being White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane, were phenomenal!

With the day being 50° F and no sun out, it was definitely nippy. For some, it may be nothing but a cool breeze, but to me— a true Floridian, the minute it dips below 60°, my body begins to shiver from shock. I loved that they had a fire pit for us to gather around, providing a warm space where we could talk and laugh with people from all over. A kind soul even brought marshmallows for us to enjoy.

They have this event every summer and fall soooo, who’s down to go with me next time? Let’s pull out our flares & get down and groovy. I’m always a message away!

Until next time!

Ciao,

Alexis xx
